Midnight Rooster October Kit & Mini Kit Giveaway!

Good morning! It's the 9th of the month, which means the Midnight Rooster October kit will be revealed today! And I'm now able to share my work with this month's kit with you and I've got a mini kit giveaway at the end of this post! :)

For my first layout this month, I was drawn to the bright, fun patterned paper by Sassafras Lass. It was perfect for a photo of my girls playing together. I went with a black and white photo since the patterned paper was so busy. I used red Maya Mist (in a previous kit) for added texture.

The My Mind's Eye die-cut, Jenni Bowlin label sticker, October Afternoon sticker and American Crafts thickers that I used for my title are all in the kit.

For my "N" and "L", I punched the letters from K & Co. alphabet cards I had in my stash.

The label sticker is by October Afternoon and is included in the Thrift Shop stickers in the kit.

My next layout was actually fairly simple because I used one of the exclusive Midnight Rooster embellishments as my main focus. My girls are so blessed to have their grandparents close by so I created this layout to honor their first grandparents day with them. I loved the red Core'dinations cardstock in the kit so I used that as my base for this layout.

I used the Jenni Bowlin label stickers from the kit but the Basic Grey alphabet stickers came from my stash. The October Afternoon sticker is from the Thrift Shop collection and was included in the kit this month.

LOVE, LOVE the exclusive fabric flower in this month's kit! I placed the yellow October Afternoon doily sticker behind the flower and let a few of the layers overlap my photos.

This was my favorite layout this month. Love these photos of Lily taking a little snooze next to me in the rocking chair. The kraft envelope and black and yellow alphabet stickers (Basic Grey) came from my stash but see the cream flowers? Those are in the kit this month and they are so pretty! Love that lace trim too!

Here's another look at my title...

The little tickets are stickers by October Afternoon and the blue doily was cut from October Afternoon patterned paper.

Finally, I have a card to share with you this month using a lot of October Afternoon products. I used the little cream flower in the kit and the lace trim.

  6. Oh gosh... I am loving your layouts and card!!!!! I am going to lift your layered flower... genius!

OK.. my favorite recipe is lamb shank stew - our own recipe:
    1 pack Lamb Shanks
    3 potatoes - peeled & cubed
    1 med. onion - chopped
5 cloves of garlic - peeled
    1 & 1/3 tb fresh Cilantro
1 8 oz. can Yellow El Pato
    3 small tomatoes cubed
    2 stalks celery - sliced
    2 carrots—sliced
    4 oz sliced mushrooms
    1/2 Teaspoon salt
    1 tb red wine vinegar
    2 tb olive oil
    3/4 tsp Italian seasoning

Braise shanks. Put all ingredients into slow cooker or pot and slow cook for 3 hrs. We put the entire shank, cracked, into the pot. Goes great with red wine and quesadillas made with corn tortillas, mozzarella cheese and lots of garlic! A great meal on a cold, gray day! One of our favorites to start before working outside in nasty weather.

  8. I love to make chili in the crock-pot, I have no recipe, just kind of throw things in there, it's different every time : ) I recently made this which would have been even better from a crock pot! http://ellesstudio.blogspot.com/2010/10/taco-soup-recipe.html

  9. I absolutely love the layout with your sweet lil one sleeping next to you! So sweet! Also the card is beautiful!! I love my crock pot, but don't have any recipies really. My fave thing to cook in it is corned beef! I just buy it and add water (to cover it) and the seasoning packet that comes with it. Then we either make sandwiches or boil potatoes and cabage. Nice boiled dinner. Thanks for to win!!

  15. Chicken Taco CHili

    3 frozen chicken breasts
    1 envelope ranch dressing mix
    1 envelope taco seasoning mix
    1 medium onion, diced
    1 can rotel tomatoes
    1 can black beans
    1 can cannelloni beans
    1 can kidney beans
1 can vegetarian baked beans (26oz)
    1 can kernel corn

Put everything in crockpot in that order. Do not drain or rinse beans. Do not stir. Cook on low for 6 to 8 hours. Take chicken out and shred with two forks. Put chicken back in, stir and serve.

You can serve with tortilla chips, fresh salsa & sour cream....a little cheddar cheese...anything like that.

Best part? The crockpot dish itself is only 3 Weight Watchers points per cup. And I've never told my husband and 3 sons, but they love it!
